Babies Home

Our babies home rests on three peaceful acres of rural farmland in Kalagala, Uganda and serves orphaned, abandoned, and rescued children up to the age of six years. In our care, the children receive love, nourishment, shelter, and medical attention while a plan is thoughtfully created for their future. When resettlement is appropriate, it is always our first course of action. Our home provides a neutral place for visiting, bonding, and emotional healing before a child is permanently reunited with biological parents or known relatives. Fostering to adopt either domestically or internationally is pursued when resettlement proves impossible.

Farming

A substantial portion of our land is used for farming fruits and vegetables to provide a healthy local diet for the children and staff. We grow matoke, cassava, beans, corn, papaya, and seasonal greens. In addition to crops, we also raise fish for high-quality protein, as well as chickens, turkey, goats, and rabbits for eggs, milk, and meat. Our on-site well provides a fresh drinking supply and supplemental water for the crops during drought. Our goal is to be a fully self-sufficient operation, enabling us to further extend our care to at-risk children and young mothers in the greater community.

Vocational Training

Having a skill is paramount to earning a living in rural Uganda. Jobs are scarce, resources are limited, and many underage mothers have not yet developed a skill with the potential to earn the money needed to support their children. By taking the time to teach these young mothers a valuable trade or craft such as basket or mat weaving, bead stringing, sewing, or candle making, we help women in the community to build small enterprises that enable them to keep their families intact.

Community Outreach

A deep sense of community is core to Ugandan culture. Our staff and volunteers make visits to nearby homes and hospitals, providing a few basic needs like food and clothing when we have an abundance to share. To encourage positive and safe living, we help to renovate unstable dwellings for the elderly and families of sponsored children. We facilitate sporting events for the community's youth to encourage a healthy body, foster talents, and boost feelings of unity and pride. We offer a listening ear and a voice of God to anyone in search of these.
